Packie Byrne & Bonnie Shaljean

Packie Manus Byrne is a traditional singer and musician from Donegal. He was born in 1917 into a small crofting community in Corkermore, near the port of Killybegs. Packie is not only a goldmine of traditional song, music and folklore, but also a very affable man and a superb storyteller.
Bonnie, was born in 1949 in Stockton, California USA and began piano at age 4. She is an accomplished musician (piano, all forms of harps, voice, composition) and lives in Cork, Ireland where she teaches and performs.

Past Carin'

Past Carin' was formed about 4 years ago and enjoyed different formats before settling on the current line-up. They consist of Steve Ferguson on guitar, Ken Adams on harmonica, Cath Edge on backing vocals and Ian Rowland with vocals and guitar. They play a variety of music including folk, Irish and sixties rock and roll.


Pat Ryan

Pat's repertoire is a mixture of traditional and contemporary songs. Apart from her solo work. Pat has appeared with "Jolly Fine Company Company" in "The Old Lamb and Flag" a celebration of Preston and its guilds and with Ken Howard. She has appeared on BBC TV and on local and national radio programmes.

Pat's own strong guitar style has been augmented by Ken Howard's sensitive accompaniment on cittern, guitar and mandolin. Their folk music travels have taken them the length of the British Isles.

Paul Downes

Paul Downes has a rich musical background that has progressed through working with Phil Beer, The Arizona Smoke Review, Pete Seeger and currently th Joyce Gang. However it's in solo performances that his skills as a multi-instrumentalist and singer as well as a great entertainer are really shown to best advantage.

Paul Greenwood

Paul is a local lad born in Blackpool, where he has been entertaining holiday makers with his own style of popular organ music for over twenty years.


Paul Guppy

A noted harp-maker and instrument repairer based in Lancaster, Paul has been involved in the city's vibrant music scene for many years. With local group "Gladly Solemn Sound" he has brought the sound of the West Gallery music to many events and gatherings in the Lancaster area.

Pauline Cato

Pauline started playing the Northumbrian pipes in 1983. She first came to national notice when she was a finalist in BBC Radio Two's Young Tradition Award in 1990, but by then she had already established a strong reputation in the world of Northumbrian Piping, wining competitions for solo piping since 1985.

Pauline Cato is one of the greatest Northumbrian pipers there has ever been. Her style is traditional influenced by the playing of Billy Pigg & Tom Clough. Tom McConville has played fiddle most of his life, turning professional in 1971. He is a brilliant musician with a lovely flowing style.

Pete Coe

Pete has been a professional musician since 1971, playing at festivals, concerts, clubs, dances and schools throughout Europe and America. A versatile instrumentalist and vibrant vocalist, Pete presents a wide range of traditional music, classic ballads, songs with a different slant on contemporary issues, unusual versions of familiar songs, which compel you to listen.

"Big" Pete Rodger was for many years lead singer with the Taverners Folk Group and for over thirty years was a participant on the local music scene - originally in jazz and skiffle. Pete had a fine powerful voice, great stage presence and few had better command of and audience. He also became one of the most respected singers of the big ballads.

Peter and Gavin Livingstone

Peter and Gavin include a very wide range of material within their repertoire including blues, jazz and self written material. Instrumentally they are extremely varied, the most interesting feature being the use of synthesisers. They also include Fiddle, Mandolin and Guitar in their arrangements.

Peter had always been keen on Folk Music, and when he became a radio producer, he took the opportunity to introduce folk music on various radio programmes.


Phil Brooks

Phil Brooks is a professional entertainer and composer whose career has come full circle. He began his musical career during the Skiffle craze. Since those early years he has explored many musical avenues including rock, country music, bluegrass, Las Vagas shows, and has written original music for radio, TV and computer software.
Phil was born in Blackpool and grew up in Fleetwood and Thornton, in 1994 he wrote and recorded "Fishermen of Fleetwood" which included many excellent songs about the Fleetwood fishing industry and local topics (see item on "Folk around the Fylde" reviews page). Phil moved to the United States in 1972 where he is still involved in the music scene.

Phil Capper

A local lad, Phil Capper has had a long involvement with the folk scene on the Fylde, both as an performer and as a club organiser. After moving from the Fylde to the Channel Islands, he continued his career as a singer at the local venues.
